Detailed Itinerary of the 7 Days Hiking Tour via the kilembe Trail
Day 1: Transfer to kilembe Starting Point
You arrive at the Entebbe International Airport where you are welcomed by a driver guide who welcomes you then takes you through a meet and greet session. Afterwards, he shall take you to the South Western Part of Uganda to kasese-kilembe. The drive takes you a period of 8 hours with a brief stopover in Mubende for lunch. Later continue to kilembe where you check in at trekkers’ hostel for Dinner and Overnight.
Day 2: Hike to Sine Camp
Morning breakfast then continue for briefing then later embark on trek and hike to Sine Camp at 2596 metres. This hike follows through tall forest trees of the Afro Montane Forest Zone on a steady climb for about 6 kilometers along a steep climb to Sine Hut. En-route, you shall view many plants and flower species, bird species as well as the Columbus monkeys. Dinner and Overnight at Sine Camp.
Day 3. Hike to Mutinda Camp
Breakfast then embark on hike to Mutinda Camp at 3688 metres following through the Bamboo and Heather-Rapanea Zone along a trail which meanders up and over many candid knolls along a ridge top.
The trail then drops down the side of the valley traversing many candid streams passing close to moss covered waterfalls with very unique stunning plant and flower species located above 3000metres like Giant Heather trees with trunks covered in green moss with old man beards (Usnea lichen) hanging from the branches.
Later, you shall continue to approach the Mutinda camp located close a small river and waterfall. Alternatively in the afternoon, hikers can summit to the Mutinda lookout at 3975 metres.
Day 4: Hike to Kiharo Camp
Have breakfast then proceed on hike towards the right turn before getting on descent through Hunwick’s pass to Kiharo Camp at 3460 meters. On reaching here, you shall have delicious Dinner and Overnight at Kiharo Camp.
Day 5: Descend to Samalira Camp
Descend down to Samalira camp 3170 metres, where one can enjoy some views of the Rwenzori Turacco up the trees if your lucky.
Day 6: Descend to Base Camp at Kilembe
Descend down down hill past the moss covered rocks along rivers and beautiful forests back to the basecamp in Kilembe. Have dinner and spend the night at trekkers hostel.
Day 7: Depart Back to Kampala or Entebbe Airport
After breakfast the guide will pick you from the hostel and drive back to Kampala at the hotel or drop off at the airport.
